NOTICE: As of 2/2/2010
At this time we have stopped taking new applications. Our current case load is full, and we have to finish our obligations to our current clients. We will not consider any applications until further notice. We will keep the most recent applications on hold until we are able to take more cases. It may be several months before we can start taking more clients.

HPRP is a part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act whereby Congress designated $1.5 billion for communities to provide financial assistance and services to either prevent households from becoming homeless or help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed. The target population is those who are at-risk due to the current economic crisis.
To receive HPRP funding, agencies had to submit a competitive proposal. Mercy House wrote the proposal as the leading agency for our community and requested $333,000. To our surprise Mercy House was awarded the Charlottesville funding in addition to the funding we requested, which totaled to $666,658.
Mercy House began accepting applications for assistance on November 3, 2009 and it has been an open flood gate of need. As of January 15th, 2010, there have been 234 applicants and we have spent $198,000 in assisting families to remain housed or become re-housed.
