Support Community

Mercy House has an extensive support community made up of organizations, community members and past residents. Through education and encouragement, residents are able to take control of their finances, save their earnings and create stability for reentering the housing market. In 2007, residents left Mercy House with $48,043 to be used towards housing.  The average resident left the shelter with $1601.  While residing at Mercy House, residents are also encouraged to improve and expand their job skills which often lead to income increases.  In 2007, 25 residents increased their monthly incomes by $17,825.  The average increase was $713.00 per month.

The feedback we receive from residents demonstrates the difference that is made when residents are provided with resources to get back on their feet and empowered to take control of their finances and their lives. Below are a few examples of what past and current residents are saying about Mercy House.

“I couldn’t ask for a better place to make a fresh start.  There are so many options open for help that I never knew were out there.  The daycare is excellent and the support is always there.”

“Thank you.  We are needy . . . It’s nice to know people still care.”

“I’ve appreciated everything they have done.  They are there for any type of situation or circumstance.”

“I appreciate everything about the Mercy House.  They’ve helped me and my boys a lot.  I got glasses, [they] helped me go back to school to better my education and get a better job, too.  They helped me save money and kept me out of the street.  They have also helped other families.”
